Forklifts
The standard machine for moving pallets and heavy loads — from inside a warehouse to an open site.
Choosing a forklift
Three questions settle the choice: how many kilos, to what height, and where the machine will work. Capacity figures are quoted at a given lift height and fall as the mast rises, so "3 tonnes" on its own is not enough.
Power source
- Enclosed warehouses, food and pharma plants: electric forklifts — no fumes, quiet
- Open yards, rough ground, heavy loads: diesel forklifts — powerful, long shifts
Commonly overlooked
- Door and ceiling height — even a lowered mast needs clearance
- Aisle width — the turning radius must fit between racks
- Fork length and any attachment required
If you need to place loads high and forward rather than just carry them, telehandlers may suit better.
